📸 AP Art 2‑D Design: Optical Illusion Project 🪞

Our AP Art 2‑D Design students took on one of their most challenging — and most creative — projects this week. Using only the panoramic function on their cameras, they were tasked with creating real‑time optical illusions with no editing tools allowed.

After learning the basics and experimenting with in‑camera techniques, Mr. Green encouraged students to push their imagination, play with perspective, and think beyond the frame. The results speak for themselves — clever, thoughtful, and incredibly fun.

✈️ Bears Tour the Air! 🐻

Our students had the incredible opportunity to tour Little Rock Air Force Base, where they explored aircraft, met Airmen, and learned firsthand about careers in aviation, engineering, and military service.

🎓 AVID Wednesday Spotlight: WICOR in Action! ✏️📚

The foundation of AVID techniques is the WICOR framework — Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading — and it was on full display at Sylvan Hills High School.

In Mrs. Bridges’ history class, students explored industrialization and its impact on countries worldwide. After reading about the topic in class, they dug deeper through research, organized their findings into visual models, collaborated on large‑scale posters, and used inquiry to understand how global events shaped the modern world.

👕 Don’t forget to wear your college or career shirt tomorrow and celebrate the strategies that help our scholars think critically and dream big.

The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is hiring for its Summer 2026 Paid Internship program! If you are 16 or older and looking to gain some great work experience while earning your own money, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

Here are the details:
💵 Pay: $15.00/hour
⏰ Hours: 15-20 hours/week (for 8-10 weeks starting June 1st)
📍 Locations: Multiple CALS branches!
🎯 Requirements: Must be 16+ and pass a background check.

Sylvan Hills High School seniors Katie Griffin and Addison Thomas have been named 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program Finalists.

Fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors earn this honor each year. As finalists, the two now advance to the final stage of competition for National Merit Scholarships to be announced in April.

Sylvan Hills Construction Education finished its latest project, hat racks. Each softball and baseball player at Sylvan Hills will receive one! Each student in the class had fun and learned a new skill. Everyone in the construction class is looking forward to the next project.

PCSSD is aware of the concerns being raised by Lifetouch. PCSSD had an agreement in place prior to all of this new information being released, and the process for providing all school photos had already begun. PCSSD is currently reviewing for potential changes with the agreement, and the district will be considering other options for the next school year.
