February is Black History Month. Sheryl Underwood is a comedian and television host of The Talk. She founded the African American Female Comedian Association. Underwood was born in Little Rock and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2007.


February is Black History Month. Lencola Sullivan-Verseveldt was the first African American to win Miss Arkansas in 1980. She was fourth runner-up at Miss America that year. She is from Morrilton and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2006.


The REACH class, a kindergarten and first grade transition class, managed a coffee cart to practice social skills and raise funds for a class field trip. School staff ordered donuts and coffee, and the students delivered the orders on Friday mornings.





Seniors at SYLVAN HILLS HIGH SCHOOL are turning in acceptance letters for colleges, technical training and military training that are put on display in the hall. At the end of the year, letters are used to raffle off prizes at the Senior Banquet.


February is Black History Month. Charles Bussey Jr. was the first African American elected to the Little Rock City Board of Directors, deputy sheriff of Pulaski County, and mayor of Little Rock. Bussey was born in Stamps and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2006.


Earlier today there was a gas leak in the school. PCCSD maintenance immediately fixed the problem, however there is still residual odor in parts of the building. To ensure safety of all students and staff, we will dismiss at 12pm today. Thank you.

February is Black History Month. Fran Bennett is an actress, best known for her role on hit shows such as Guiding Light, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Scandal. Bennett was born in Malvern and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 2005.


5th graders at CHENAL ELEMENTARY investigated African American contributors to American culture and academia for Black History Month. Their findings are on display in the hallway outside their classrooms.




February is Black History Month. James "Jimmy" McKissic was a world-renowned pianist who performed throughout the world, including more than two dozen events at Carnegie Hall in New York. McKissic was born in Little Rock and inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1994.


Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday," also called Shrove Tuesday. The name Fat Tuesday refers to the last day of eating richer foods before the leaner days of Lent begin when many Christians fast. Do you celebrate Mardi Gras?


February is Black History Month. Joycelyn Elders served as the U.S. Surgeon General in President Clinton's Administration and as Director of the Arkansas Department of Health. Elders was born in Schaal, AR and was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1995.


February is Black History Month. Rodney Earl Slater was the first African American director of the Federal Highway Administration and U.S. Secretary of Transportation under President Clinton. He grew up in Marianna and was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame in 1997.


Congrats Ember Smith (MAUMELLE HIGH), Remy Harrison & Ivana Elliott (SYLVAN HILLS HIGH) for their results in the inaugural girls wrestling tournament. Ember won her division. Ivana finished second in hers & Ivana finished 4th in her division.

Yummy! Life skills students at SYLVAN HILLS HIGH SCHOOL toured and dined at UA - Pulaski Tech Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute Wednesday. Students learned about the 3D Culinary program for individuals with special abilities.
