6th grade AVID students at SYLVAN HILLS MIDDLE are learning a valuable lesson in honor and respect of the American flag. Mr. Watson taught the students how to properly fold the flag. These student groups volunteered to take down the flag at the end of each school day.

Mark your calendars! ‘Twas the night before school starts, when all through the building
The classrooms sat empty, waiting for children.
The teachers have been working, for weeks by now
To make sure students would enter with a “wow!”
Meanwhile, children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a new year danced in their heads.
Teachers were putting finishing touches on plans
To bring an amazing year to their student’s hands.
The morning would bring new adventures no doubt
Another school year is beginning with a lot to be excited about.
Happy first day of school, and to all a goodnight!
