“Where is Papa going with that ax?” The famous words of Fern Arable rang through the ears of second graders on the first day of their three week Charlotte’s Web unit. The kids were inthralled from that moment until the end. They learned all about farm life, animals, and the positive economic impact that farms have on our daily lives. Second grade wrapped up the unit with a movie day so the kids could compare and contrast the movie with the novel. The kids snacked on “slop” that they produced during the viewing, while being dressed as one of the characters from Charlotte’s Web.
