SHERWOOD, Ark. -- Pre-K students at Oakbrooke Elementary spent the month of February learning about Black History Month, friendship and bravery.

ā€œWe talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he helped make it possible for people who looked different to be friends,ā€ said teacher ms. Kenya Browning. ā€œI introduced Ruby Bridges and discussed her courage.ā€

Ms. Browning and her students talked about physical differences and asked them to draw a picture about their friends that were different from them.

The class also read, ā€œThe Colors of Us,ā€ and completed an activity in which they were given a mirror and asked to describe their facial characteristics, then create a self portrait and describe what they liked best about themselves.

ā€œWe talked about our differences and how it made them special and unique,ā€ said Ms. Browning.
