PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. — Harris Elementary School is implementing temporary changes to arrival, dismissal, and visitor access procedures as major renovations continue through November.
Construction has been underway throughout the summer — including a facelift with new flooring, windows, and a front entrance — that directly affects the daily entrance and exit procedures of the parking lot and main building for buses, car riders, parents and families, employees, and all visitors.
The construction also impacts College Station Elementary students, families, and employees who were relocated last year to the Harris campus as a new College Station is being built.
Harris Elementary Principal Tracy Bailey emphasized that all changes are temporary and designed to maintain safety during construction. “We are so excited about all the renovations that are going on here at Harris Elementary, but we just have to remember that we have to be patient. This is temporary, and we are trying to do what’s best to keep our students, our staff and parents safe,” Bailey said.
Car & Bus Riders
Drivers entering Harris Elementary will follow a split‑lane system:
Right, interior lane
Vehicles for College Station and Harris Pre‑K will turn right and proceed to the College Station awning for pickup & drop‑off.
Following pickup or drop-off, wait at the cones for an SRO to signal a right turn onto Wayne Street. Both lanes will stop at the cones until buses have cleared the Wayne Street drop-off.
Left, exterior lane
Harris K–5 car riders will turn left and move toward the cones. Both lanes will stop at the cones until buses have cleared Wayne Street.
Once an SRO removes the cone and signals a right turn onto Wayne Street, drivers should pull up to the Wayne Street gate to pick up or drop-off students.
Bus Rider Procedures
A new entrance is under construction on Wayne Street to accommodate bus riders. All Harris and College Station bus riders will be dropped off at the new gate on the back side of the campus.
Visitor & Office Access
Due to construction in the front office area, Harris Elementary has established a temporary office for the principal and front-office staff. Directional signage will be posted, and visitors can also follow this guidance.
Visitors will enter through the secured gate between Harris and College Station.
After 9 a.m., the gate will be locked; visitors must call Harris Elementary’s office at (501) 955‑3550 for entry. A security officer will come to the gate for entrance.
After entering the gate, visitors should turn left between the media center and cafeteria.
Turn right, following the cafeteria wall, then turn left to a covered breezeway leading to double doors.
Enter the doors for a security check-in.
Take an immediate left, and the office will be the first door on the left.
Overflow Parking
An overflow parking area will be available for staff and parents next to the Pulaski County Adult Education building, which is also on the same campus. Gravel will be added to support additional parking capacity.
