It's time to celebrate our Mills High teacher and students of the month for March!
TEACHER: Mr. Bean, art teacher, is the teacher of the month. His colleague said, "Mr. Bean challenges his students in all his art classes to improve and better their art. He helps those who are interested in a career in art find resources and gives amazing advice on how to navigate the art world after school. He also has contributed so much into the arts program here physically with all the new equipment and emotionally with how much he cares and wants the students to succeed."
9TH GRADE STUDENT: Lisbhet Ruiz. Her teacher said, "Lisbhet has grown by leaps and bounds on her two ELA interim assessments. She is a hard working student, and that hard work is paying off!" (no photo available)
10TH GRADE STUDENT: Jasmine Wright. Her nominating teacher said, "Jasmine has recently really excelled on her writing and reading interim exams. She works hard and continues to be a wonderful student!" (no photo available)
11TH GRADE STUDENT: Martin Duff. The teacher who nominated Martin said, "He gets to class on time. He cooks BBQ for his family's food truck on weekends. Always eager to help anyone out. He'd give the shirt off his back to another person. He is a great scholar and has a very warm personality."
12TH GRADE STUDENT: Iuynna Hill. As her teacher said, "Iuynna is a hard working and caring student who ALWAYS leads by example. She is well deserving of student of the month!"

The students in the pottery and craft class recently learned to use the sewing machine to explore "drawing" with thread on top of monoprints. This lesson helped to reinforce knowledge of composition, line, shape, and color layering and will be applied to a larger book making project over the next few wells.
If you haven't heard much about this type of art, search for the artist Bisa Butler to see an example the students learned about in this class.
Who knew sewing could create such masterpieces!
