March has been designated by the National Association for Music Education as Music In Our Schools Month®. The Sylvan Hills Elementary School Bear Tones 4th and 5th Grade Choir visited the Arkansas State Capitol on March 18 for the annual Capitol Concert. Students joined hundreds of other students from across the state to perform music together. The songs celebrated America 250, including America the Beautiful, July 4, 1776, Our States Are Great, and Why We Sing.
A huge thank you to Beth Hendrix, SHES music teacher, for helping to make this performance possible. Every day, in classrooms and rehearsal rooms across our school district, music educators dedicate themselves to reaching all students with life-changing musical experiences. Parents, administrators, and the wider community often only see the wonderful results of music performances; however, we miss the months of practice and rehearsals and more importantly the learning process that takes place to make it all happen.
