On June 20, 2011 the Arkansas Department of Education removed the Pulaski County School Board of Education and Superintendent, Dr. Charles L. Hopson, and took control of the District. Dr. Tom Kimbrell, Commissioner, Arkansas Department of Education, will serve as the PCSSD Board of Director. Former Superintendent Bobby Lester and Phyllis Stewart, ADE, were appointed as liaisons for the District by the Department of Education. Dr. Jerry D. Guess was selected as the Superintendent of the Pulaski County Special School District, effective July 1, 2011.
- Amendment of Certified Staff Allocations for 2011-2012. It was recommended that the 2011-2012 certified staff allocations be amended to create a new position, .6 FTE Interim Director of Elementary Education, for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year. The Deputy Superintendent of Learning Services is working closely with ADE and PCSSD teachers and instructional leaders in the development and implementation of the new CCSS for K-12. Reinstating the Director of Elementary Education for .6 FTE will allow appropriate supervision and guidance for the District’s 24 elementary schools while ensuring the successful implementation of the new CCSS. - Sale of Property of Oak Grove High School. Selling equipment and material at the old Oak Grove High School would generate funds for the District. Approved
- Adjustment of Schedules (Informational Only). The District is considering changing the start time of schools for the 2012-13 school year. The schedule for the current year has the secondary schools beginning earlier than the elementary schools, some as early as 7:30 a.m. and as much as 55 minutes earlier than some of the elementary campuses. The proposed schedule will narrow the beginning times with elementary schools starting between 7:45 and 8:15 a.m. and secondary campuses will begin as early as 8:10 a.m. and as late as 8:35 a.m. Dismissal times will vary accordingly. Adjusting the schedules will allow for more efficient use of district resources, and allow parents of younger students to see their students off on the bus or drop them off at the school on the way to work.
