Mills High ROTC completed the Cadet Leadership Challenge 

(North Little Rock, Ark.) -- The Mills University Studies High School Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps participated in the Arkansas JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock June 17 through June 21, 2019.

During this four day Leadership and Adventure Training event, Cadets experienced life in a pseudo military environment. They were organized in platoon formations, slept in military barracks, and conducted military type training on a demanding schedule. Training events included obstacle courses, rope bridges, rappelling, Cadet Challenge Fitness Test, water safety/ drown proofing, Leadership Reaction Course, land navigation and survival skills. 

“The cadets represented Mills very well  at JCLC, as well as at statewide competitions, since my assignment this year,” said Lt.Colonel (Retired) Paul Brown, Mills High School Senior Army Instructor and JCLC S-5/PAO.  “The Cadets from The Comet Battalion did well individually and collectively this year at JCLC with special awards and recognition,” added Brown. 

The Mills University Studies High School Army JROTC Comet Battalion had nine Cadets participating this year.  The Cadets from Mills were Cadet Command Sergeant Major Kelton Barnes, Cadet Second Lieutenant Jalon Davis, Cadet First Sergeant Keilon Davis, Cadet Major Reola Fulks, Cadet Second Lieutenant Christopher Guevara, Cadet Second Lieutenant Aaliyah May, Cadet Second Lieutenant Xerin Merriweather, Cadet Second Lieutenant Jasmine Penn and Cadet Second Lieutenant Ava Wilf.

Cadet Keilon Davis won second place male Physical fitness award for the Camp and Cadet Xerin Merriweather was selected for the Top Leadership Award in his assigned 4th Platoon. Cadets Christopher Guevara, Jasmine Penn and Xerin Merriweather were members of the Camps Best Platoon.

The 2019 JCLC hosted 227 Cadets from High Schools all across the state of Arkansas. There are currently 26 Army JROTC Programs in the state and 22 of the 26 programs were represented at JCLC 2019. 

The Mills University Studies High School Army JROTC Program Instructors are Master Sergeant (Retired) Timothy Dunn and Lt. Colonel (Retired) Paul Brown.
