The purpose of this communication is to inform you that Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High School has been classified by the Arkansas State Board of Education as a school in academic distress and to notify you of the additional attendance options available to you because of this status.
Your first option, which we urge you to take, is to return to Mills High School for the 2016-2017 school year. PCSSD has made improvements for the coming year, which we are confident will result in the removal of the academic distress classification.
As stated, however, you do have additional attendance options that were previously not available. You now have the right to transfer to any other school or school district, and remain there until graduation, so long as you are not seeking movement to another school or district in academic distress. To do this, the parent/guardian must notify the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and both the sending and receiving school districts of the request for a transfer no later than July 30, 2016.
The parent or guardian must complete the Arkansas Opportunity Public School Choice Act application in the Division of Equity and Pupil Services at the Administrative Offices located at 925 E. Dixon Rd. The application can also be found on the Arkansas Department of Education website.
PCSSD is providing a contact person to answer questions and furnish assistance navigating the process. For more information, please contact Yolanda Richards at 501-234-2021.
