Classified Personnel Policy Committee Minutes: December 10, 2014

The Classified Personnel Policy Committee met in Conference Room B of the Central Office at 1 p.m. on December 10, 2014. In attendance were Bill Goff, Julie Welfel, Becky Del Rio, Clint Walker, Charles Blake, Emry Chesterfield, Derek Scott, and Claude Johnson. Loria Bryant was absent. Kim White was in attendance.

Old Business

Chairperson Clint Walker called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. and asked Julie Welfel to continue with the presentation of the change in salary range for the pre-school para-professionals as part of Old Business. Kim White was in attendance to present on the salary adjustment proposal. The request from Lisa Peeples was reviewed. A comparison of the salaries amongst different school districts (LRSD, NLRSD, and Cabot School District) was presented in the handouts. A discussion of the job classifications ensued and the comparisons of salaries across the districts and the job requirements of the various ranges of the district job classifications. Notation was given to other job classifications at the Range Level of 3 which may also be affected. Julie Welfel requested that the committee come to a decision regarding the request. Julie Welfel moved to move the Paraeducator for Pre-Kindergarten Program from a Range 3 to a Range 7 on the Salary Schedule. Motion defeated for no second on the floor. Bill Goff proposed that the administration conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the compensation of all classified personnel. Julie Welfel seconded the motion. Motion carried.

 Discussion regarding the changes in eligibility for insurance under the new state/federal guidelines ensued. Classified staff employees needing supplemental hours for eligibility (30 hours per week) are encouraged to seek for part time opportunities posted on the website or by contacting the HR department.

New Business

A policy needs to be developed for how long to maintain election ballots. Emry Chesterfield proposed that this be tabled to the next meeting. Charles Blake requested that the policy for the recall of elected members/step down of elected members be discussed at the next Classified PPC meeting.

Claude Johnson proposed a discussion of the occurrence or unscheduled absences policy used in the Maintenance Department and the concerns by the personnel about the “3 p.m. deadline on the employee’s regular scheduled workday prior to the absence”. Claude asks that this policy be added to the January 2015 agenda.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 14, 2015 at 1 p.m. in Conference Room B of the Central Office.

Bill Goff moved to adjourn the meeting at 3:15 p.m. Julie Welfel seconded the motion.
