Certified Personnel Policy Committee Minutes: January 27, 2015

Superintendent’s Board Room

Present: Chairperson Pam Fitzgiven, Judy Stockrahm, Loveida Ingram, Renee George, Paul Brewer,   Superintendent Jerry Guess, and Dr. Janice Warren

I. Call to Order: 5:09 p.m.              

II.Approval of December and January Minutes

Motion to accept January minutes was made by Ingram; seconded by Brewer; Motion carried.

III. 2015-2016 School Calendar:   

Chairperson Fitzgiven shared that the law requires a 9 weeks to have no less than 40 days and no more than 50 days. She also shared that the law allows school districts to offer up to 12 hours (2 days) of classroom prep. time prior to the first reporting day of students. The Committee discussed a  the following options for the 2015-2016 school calendar:

  • Two days of classroom prep. (Thursday and Friday prior to students starting)
  • Professional Development is kept in February along with having a full day for Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Last day for students May 28
  • Make up days June 1,2,3,4 and June 7

The Superintendent would not agree to 2 days of Classroom Prep stating he wasn’t sure what kind of Staff Development was planned for teachers that week. He did agree to 1 ½ days of Classroom Prep. (9 hours of PD credit).

Motion to accept the 2015-2016 school calendar with the following changes was made by Superintendent Guess; seconded by Renee George; Motion carried unanimously:

  • ½ day of classroom prep. on August 13 and a full day on August  14
  • one day of Staff Development on Friday, February 12
  • add 5 days of inclement weather days after Memorial Day

IV. Fuller Middle Scholars Program:

Chairperson Fitzgiven asked how the Jacksonville students would be affected. Dr. Warren stated for the 2015-2016 school year, the program would still exist. After that, it would be up to the new Jacksonville school district.
