Superintendent’s Board Room
Present: Chairperson Pam Fitzgiven, Loveida Ingram, Judy Stockrahm, Robert Austin, Renee George, Paul Brewer, Janice Warren, Superintendent Jerry Guess
Motion to accept agenda was made by Superintendent Guess; second by Ingram.
Discussion continued over language in the revised Social Media Policy. The most important concern is creating a policy with language that will minimize the number of grievances and/or lawsuits that could potentially be brought against the district. The Committee agreed that Chairperson Fitzgiven and Deb Roush would communicate changes to two sections that would satisfy both administration and the certified employees.
Motion to table the discussion for further revision was made by Austin; second by Superintendent Guess. Motion carried.
Chairperson Fitzgiven asked if the district had a plan for how teachers will be assigned/reassigned for the new JNPSD and PCSSD. Superintendent Guess stated that there was not a plan at this time. There will be an interim Superintendent that will be charged by the State Board to see how things will be divided. There is no plan at this time.
Chairperson Fitzgiven stated that NLR and LRSD are both on a 192 day contract and PCSSD has reduced teachers’ contract to 190 days. Since Administration and the CAB have discussed how they would like to see our salary schedule be more comparable to surrounding districts, Chairperson Fitzgiven stated she would like to see teachers’ contracts be reinstated to 192 day contracts. Paul Brewer stated that PCSSD will be meeting with NLRSD and LRSD administration to discuss the 2015-2016 school calendar. The 2 days could be added at the end of the year. The Committee will continue discussions in January.
Thanksgiving Week: The Committee discussed keeping the one week for Thanksgiving as long as teachers had until May 1 of each calendar year to complete the required 18 hours of PD.
Parent/Teacher Conferences: We discussed changing the 4 half days for parent/teacher conferences to 2 full days. The Committee nominated Renee George to create a survey to send out to teachers to get their input on what they would prefer to do.
Ending 9 weeks on a Friday: Renee George recommended that the 9 weeks ends on a Friday rather than in the middle of the week. Superintendent Guess stated that there has to be a certain number of days in each 9 weeks. He did state that he would like Dr. Warren to see what could be done.
Grades Due: We discussed marking the calendar to signify when grades are due since there are inconsistencies across the district. This would give teachers a definite date each 9 weeks to have grades posted.
