Board meeting minutes: November 13, 2018

This regular meeting of the Pulaski County Special School District was held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, in the Board Room of the PCSSD Administrative Building (925 East Dixon Rd.).

In Attendance:  Alicia Gillen, Eli Keller, Mike Kemp, Linda Remele, Shelby Thomas, Tina Ward

Absent: Brian Maune

  1. Call to Order

    • Dr. Remele called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
  2. Roll Call

    • Mayor Kemp introduced Robinson High School Board guest student Mitchell Willis. Mitchell led the Pledge of Allegiance.

  5. Presentations/Acknowledgements

    1. Mr. Charles Blake, Director of Transportation
      • Mr. Charles Blake read resolutions and condolences on behalf on Mr. Jason Johnson, who lost his life in a bus accident. Mr. Johnson's wife was there to receive a plaque in her husband's honor.
    2. Presentation by Little Rock Chamber of Commerce
      • Mr. James Reddish, Little Rock Regional Chamber V.P. shared a powerpoint presentation on Career Academies & Ford NGL. He explained the steps and community involvement in the program and that it is aimed at improving student achievement and increasing community involvement to a higher level.
    3. Teachers of the Year
      • Ms. Smith recognized this year's Teachers of the Year and their outstanding devotion and commitment to education.
    4. Chenal Elementary- Recogntion
      • Ms. Smith recognized Ms. Harris and her team at Chenal Elementary for being named an award school and receiving $48,598. for Top 5% Performance, and for also receiving $24,294. for Top 6%-10% growth.
    5. Baker Elementary - Recognition
      • Ms. Smith recognized Mrs. Whitfield and her team at Baker Elementary for being named as a Reward School and receiving $34,019. for Top 5% Performance.

      • Joe Lansden and Tom Csicsila, Baldwin & Shell, gave project updates for Mills High School, Mills Middle School, and Sylvan Hills High School.

      • Will Reid gave updates on the Driven program and Virtual Academy.

  11. Comments from the Board

    • Mr. Keller acknowledged his appreciation for our Board Guest Student Mitchell Willis' participation and feedback in the meeting. Dr. Remele shared she had recently attended the ASBA meeting and spoke of the legislative programs that will be addressed in the near future. Ms. Ward asked Dr. McNulty to address the issue of the protestors at Mills High School.
  12. Superintendent's Comments

    • Dr. McNulty shared that he would like to meet with community groups and concerned citizens regarding Mills High School concerns. Dr. McNulty also shared that in the December Board Meeting there will be an AVID presentation and wished everyone a great Thanksgiving.
