The Joe T. Robinson High School EAST classroom has been awarded a grant from EAST Initiative to be used as part of a movement that encourages students to become familiar with technology while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, called Techno-cising.

In July, 2011, the grant was issued to be used by the Robinson EAST Lab in January this year. The grant provided $10,000, and included matching funds. The money from the grant was used to purchase five Trimble GPS units and five Canon SLR cameras. One community member, Joel Schmidt, visited the high school to assist the EAST classroom and to tutor the students on the use of cameras and Adobe Photoshop.

Another proponent to the Techno-cising project is participation in “geocaching,” which involves the use of the GPS devices to locate hidden caches left by other like-minded individuals. Joe T. Robinson will be hosting a geo-caching tournament in the following weeks.
