Maumelle artist shines at exhibit

Haley McReynolds, a sophomore at MAUMELLE HIGH SCHOOL, has a drawing on exhibit at the Arkansas Learning Institute in the Butler Center at 401 Clinton Ave. in Little Rock. She represents the Central Region of the Arkansas Art Educators Association as first-place winner in 10th grade. Her work will be on exhibit until July 28, 2012. The gallery director advised the school that at the opening reception on Sunday May 13, since he mounted the exhibit a week earlier, there had been many positive comments from travelers from all over the United States about the quality of art education in the Natural State. Way to go Haley and Maumelle High!

Maumelle High hosts state legislators

On Tuesday, April 3, the Arkansas State Legislature’s Joint Performance Review (JPR) Committee had a meeting in Maumelle. On the agenda for the day were presentations and question and answer sessions with PCSSD Superintendent Dr. Jerry Guess and Maumelle High Principal Dr. Tamekia Brown. Dr. Guess spoke about the direction the District is moving and the issues we currently face. Dr. Brown gave a brief overview of the exciting things going on at the state’s flagship new high school.

Maumelle students recognized by Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

The following Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students at MAUMELLE MIDDLE and MAUMELLE HIGH SCHOOLS recently participated in FCCLA’s Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) Events Competition. Many awards were won, with six MMS students and one MHS student advancing all the way to Nationals July at Orlando, Florida!

PCSSD well represented at art competition

On Tuesday, March 13, 2012, art students from JACKSONVILLE HIGH, ROBINSON HIGH and MAUMELLE HIGH SCHOOL brought home awards from the 2012 AYAA (Arkansas Young Artist Association) Spring Competition and Convention, held at the State House Convention Center. Students’ works were entered into categories according to media and style, and were judged by college art teachers as well as professional artists. Awards were given in 66 areas, most containing well over 100 works of art in each group. Over 1,000 member students of the AYAA were in attendance from schools from all over the state.

Maumelle High wins trivia challenge

MAUMELLE HIGH SCHOOL won the third annual High School Trivia Challenge held March 15 at the Clinton Library! Four ninth-grade students, Nabil Bhimani, Aaron Woodall, Braylon Camper and Velimir Petrovic, competed with upper classmen from eight high schools to take home the title of champions! High schools from the Little Rock, North Little Rock and Pulaski County Special School District competed in a “Jeopardy”-type game related to the center’s exhibits and Encyclopedia of Arkansas. Topics included famous Arkansans; Arkansas politics; Arkansas places and symbols; and presidents and first ladies.

In preparation for the competition, the team met daily at lunch and studied for two weeks. The team supporters were Kristen Black, Sarah Halter, Jared Hailey, Matt McKinney, Austin Ahne, Rachael Williams, Vesna Petrovic and Nick Kellar.
