The Sylvan Hills Environmental And Spatial Technology (EAST) program was initiated in 2003. The EAST program is a student-based, project-oriented class, with an emphasis on community. So far, the SHHS lab has successfully completed many projects. Among these are an ATV safety video, a repainted school parking lot, and several benefit events, among them a “ Battle of the Bands,” with proceeds going to the Salvation Army. Students in this program conceive, plan, and execute various projects, both school and community based. These projects are based around a fourfold criteria, known as the SIPC model for project selection; the four criteria are Service, Integration, Positive, and Challenging. If a project meets these four benchmarks, then students are encouraged to proceed with a plan, and use whatever technology the EAST lab has available in order to complete their project. |
