Sherwood Elementary uniform policy

Purpose
To promote student safety, minimize disruptions, identify trespassers on campus, and promote improvement in student behavior and academic achievement.

General Guidelines

  • Clothing items are to have NO visible labels or logos
  • Clothing must be the appropriate size (no sagging or bagging)
  • No hats, caps, visors or scarves are to be worn inside the building or on the playground


Boys


Shirts

  • Short or long sleeved collared shirts, turtleneck shirts, Sherwood Elementary t-shirt, Sherwood Elementary royal blue logo “hoodies” (available through the PTA)
  • Solid color selections: red (not maroon), royal blue, navy, light blue, or white
  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times

Pants

  • Belted or elastic waist pants or walking shorts
  • No cargo pants, outside zippers or pockets, sweatpants, wind suits or jeans
  • Solid color selection: Khaki or navy
  • Belt Colors: Brown or black

Shoes and socks

  • Any color shoes and socks that will not cause distractions or prevent student from participating in PE and recess activities
  • For the safety of the students, we request no flip-flops

Coats

  • Jackets and coats may only be worn to school and are to be hung up in the classroom during the day.
  • Plain sweaters, vests, blazers or sweatshirts in uniform colors may be worn
  • No logos may be worn on any outer wear


Girls


Shirts

  • Slacks, capris, walking shorts, skorts (right above the knee), or jumper
  • No cargo pants, outside zippers or pockets, sweatpants, wind suits or jeans
  • Colors: khaki or navy
  • Belt Colors: Brown or black

Shoes and socks

  • Any color shoes and socks that will not cause distractions or prevent student from participating in PE and recess activities

Accessories

  • Please label all outerwear and lunch boxes
  • Rolling backpacks are acceptable, but must be carried once inside the building

Exemptions
Parents may apply to the building principal for full or partial exemptions or waivers for student due to handicapping condition or religious observation. New students to district schools will be given a two-week grace period to comply with the Uniform Dress Code. Denied exemption requests may be appealed to the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel then to the school board.
