PCSSD mourns devoted employee Debbie Varnell

Debbie Varnell, a PCSSD employee since 1995 and most recently the cafeteria manager at Sherwood Elementary School, died yesterday.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2012. Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2012. Both will be at the Moore Funeral Home at 700 North Second St. in Cabot.

Dale Scott, PCSSD’s director of child nutrition, said Ms. Varnell began her career with PCSSD as a substitute lunch room monitor in 1993. She worked as a substitute cafeteria worker, and in April, 1995, she officially joined the District as a fulltime cafeteria worker. She became the cafeteria manager at Sherwood Elementary School in 1999, where she has worked since.

Mr. Scott said Ms. Varnell received the Elementary Manager of the Year Award for the 2004-2005 school year. “She was one of our best managers. She was always upbeat, loved the children and always made you feel welcome. We will miss her very much,” he added.
