Northwood Middle uniform policy

All middle school students are required to comply with a uniform dress code during school hours (Board Policy Code: JICA)

General Guidelines

  • No writing on any clothing items
  • No athletic company names, designs, patterns, logos or insignias (except for school logo)

  • Hair rollers or headdresses such as bandanas, scarves, etc. will not be allowed
  • Caps, hats and other head coverings may not be worn inside the building, including at night events
  • Pocket chains worn as jewelry or to hold wallets will not be allowed on school property. Failure to follow this school rule will result in chains being taken and students may receive disciplinary actions

Shirts

  • Short or long sleeve, collared polo shirts or turtleneck shirts
  • Shirts must be longer than undergarments and need to be buttoned so that under garments are not showing
  • All shirts may be any solid color, except red (No red polos)
  • No logos
  • Undershirts must be solid white

  • Belted or elastic waist pants or walking shorts

  • All jackets and outerwear (sweatshirts & sweaters) must be plain (No writing, designs, patterns, team names, etc. except school logos)

Consequences for not following uniform dress requirements

  • Any deviation from the requirements of the uniform policy will be determined by the building principal on the individual basis
  • Students will be sent to the Counselor’s Office to call Parent to change clothing
  • Students not meeting dress code guidelines will be assigned In-School Suspension for the day
  • Continued violation of dress code will result in office referral for further discipline after the third infraction

We hope that parental decisions on appropriate dress will be consistent with those of the school dress code Although the list does not attempt to include all items, students have the responsibility to know and follow school dress codes School order and safety for out students is important at all times
