Prior to their big win at the state level, the Wilbur D. Mills University Studies High School girls and boys track teams won the 5A Central Conference Championships under the leadership of Coach Brian Glass, JC Comet and Coach Duane Clayton. Mills fielded several Conference Champions in the meet. Olivia Onyilagha was the champion in both the high jump and the 400m. Kalliyah Rush-McCree won the 300m hurdles. Khaila Jones won the triple jump and the 200m dash. Makala Clayton was runner up in the 100m hurdles. In the boys division of the 5A Central meet, Floyd Pugh and Justin Bullard finished first and second place in all the sprints. The Comets swept the sprint relays with first place finishes. In addition, Justin Bullard won the 5A state champion in the 200m dash. At the Meet of Champs, junior Khaila Jones placed fourth of all classifications springing a 37'4" jump in the triple jump. The team looks forward to her return in her senior season. The Mills U.S. High relay team, consisting of Braylon Goodwin, O'Kera Leonard, Floyd Pugh and Justin Bullard, attempted the difficult task of returning to the Meet of Champs to compete for the Gold like last year. However, they came home with a silver medal, finishing in second place behind 7A Little Rock Central. Each athlete contributed to these championship wins.
