Sixteen Jacksonville High Art students won awards at the 2013 Arkansas Young Artists Association (AYAA) State Art Contest held Monday at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. In total these students won 19 awards in various categories competing against students from throughout the state. Those winning awards were:
Devin Jones – 1st place – Printmaking
Kenau Starks – 1st place – Charcoal Drawing
Alexandria Williams – 1st place – 1st year Color Pencil
Jessica Harris – 2nd place – Color Pencil
Chen Dong – 2nd Place – Watercolor Painting
John Hermann – 2nd Place – 1st year Exact Reproduction, 4th place – 1st year Pencil, and 4th place – Color Pencil
Louise Groenkjaer – 2nd place – 1st year Color Pencil
Nathan Hilliard – 2nd Place – Dry Color Media and Honorable Mention – Color Pencil
Bryant Carter – 3rd place – Charcoal Drawing
Christa Gitschlag – 3rd place – Printmaking
Jessica Gomez – 3rd place – Color Pencil
Kitana Holland – 4th place – Charcoal Drawing
Ashley Arnett – Honorable Mention – Mixed Media
Greg Payne – Honorable Mention – Scratchboard
Caylee Woodall – Honorable Mention – Pencil Drawing
Hannah Shellito – Honorable Mention – Mixed Media
Congratulations to these students and to the their teachers, Mrs. Glenda McCune and Coach Marvin Lindley, and to the entire JHS art department on another outstanding year.
A special congratulations to senior Hannah Shellito. This year makes the fourth consecutive year that she has won at least one award in State Competition. She is the only JHS student to have ever accomplished this.
