These days, many kids draw little distinction between real life and online life. Instant messaging, social websites like facebook and other forms of chat are all wildly popular with today’s youth and as parents and leaders, we must face the reality that these forms of communication come with many dangers. According to a recent study, fourteen percent of 10th graders say they have agreed to meet an online stranger in person. In addition, eleven percent of second- and third-grade students reported that they have been asked to describe private things about their body to someone online. While this research is alarming, it is important to understand that it is the reality facing out students.
Join us for “Facebook and Internet Safety – Better Safe than Sorry,” a brief discussion and presentation by Patrina Robinson from the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office. This discussion about social media promises to be well worth your time. What better way to spend your lunch hour than learning what you can do to help your child navigate the minefield of cyberbullying, social networks and online privacy. Come out and enjoy a lite lunch and PCSSD’s POWER HOUR FOR PARENTS.
