Cloud Callout: What does the School Nurse Do?
 

 

 

 


 

 

  1. To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in district schools.
  2. Provides nursing assessment, diagnosis and care for students who are ill or injured.
  3. Provides vision assessments for students who have been referred for psychological testing.
  4. Provides age appropriate screening procedures for vision, scoliosis and make appropriate health referrals and provides follow up.
  5. Assists in providing class for non-nurses who administer medications and administers medications on the days scheduled in the building.  Review medication log.
  6. Follows the Arkansas State Laws on immunizations and communicable disease control.
  7. Assumes responsibility for informing principals when the school environment is either unsafe or unhealthy.
  8. Participates in the inter-disciplinary team and determines the needs of medically involved students.  Writes IHP for students who require a care plan or emergency action plan.
  9.  Keep faculty informed of students health while following HIPPA guidelines.
  10. Maintains adequate immunization and health records on all students.
  11. Responds to emergency needs in other school when requested.
  12. Provides health care services and counseling for faculty as needed.
  13. Communicate with Arkansas Health Department, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Physician Offices, Department of Human Services and other school districts, hospitals and Law Enforcement.
