Nutrition

The mission of our Nutrition Department is to help young people develop healthy eating practices that will last a lifetime. Our staff strives to improve student health by providing nutritious meals to all students, preparing them to learn and making them more productive in the classroom. We proudly serve meals that meet USDA meal pattern requirements and offer food choices consistent with the Recommended Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

We encourage all families, regardless of income,to fill out and return an Eligibility Application Form for the Federal Breakfast & Lunch program. You can obtain an application from any school office, school cafeteria or The Student Nutrition Office. Please make sure the application is completed and returned to the school or The Student Nutrition Division.

Important change regarding student nutrition:

In response to the new United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutritional standards for school meals for the 2012-2013 school year, Student Nutrition will offer only one percent white milk or fat free chocolate milk available with every lunch.

In the past, PCSSD has offered fountain juice with lunch in the middle and high schools. This will not be an option for the 2012-2013 school year. Instead, we will offer canned, 100 percent fruit juice in all middle and high schools. This canned juice will be sold a la carte and will cost $1. Water will always be available in every cafeteria.
