 Accelerated Reader
| The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program provides teachers and children a
fun and exciting way to promote reading at home and in the classroom.
The program is for all students in grades 2 -5, and 1st graders begin
Accelerated Reader in January. Students can choose form a wide
variety of books at their reading level. Books are marked with
colored dots in the CHEMS Media Center to indicate their AR book level.
Each student's level is determined by a computerized test called the
STAR Reading Test. The Star test is given approximately once a
quarter and the reading level is adjusted at that time. Students
can take quizzes at school when the finish reading a book. Points are
earned by answering test questions correctly. The program tracks
their progress over the course of the school year and generates reports
for students and teachers. Prizes are awarded for top readers. |
