Welcome to a school with terrific
teachers and great students that feel at home here at Crystal Hill Elementary
Magnet School. This is a place of adventure and learning, where students enjoy
all of the wonderful things it has to offer them.
Communications is the magnet theme Crystal Hill Elementary
and combined with some technology, it becomes the heartbeat of our school.
Communications is the subject that everyone learns and loves at Crystal Hill
Magnet! In addition to weaving communications into the daily subject matter,
students attend a communications class each week to offer specialized
instruction designed to enhance classroom subject matter. Crystal Hill Magnet
students learn hands-on in areas such as keyboarding, digital photography,
digital video, and software applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Photo Story,
Movie Maker, and KidPix.
Crystal Hill Elementary Magnet School students have many
opportunities to take learned skills and apply them on a daily basis. One
popular example is the morning news. Students in 4th and 5th
grade are guided through lessons to design a short presentation using
PowerPoint. This being the foundation, it supports announcements, weather,
lunch menu, the Pledge of Allegiance, and other special events. This simple
activity is embellished with cordless microphones, audio, video, and live news
casting using such innovation as “green screen” technology. All of the advanced
technology support the magnet theme: communication.
When it comes to leadership, Crystal Hill Magnet students
take charge! The Business Partners Committee is led by a group of talented and
dedicated students that communicate with local business leaders on a regular
basis, inviting them to tour, visit, and participate in events throughout the
year. In addition, students use learned communications skill to write and
design a quarterly newsletter highlighting business partner participation. They
then mail the newsletter to business partners and encourage continued
communication. The newsletter is then published and archived on the school
webpage!
Crystal Hill Elementary Magnet School students are quite
fortunate to have many special activities. Although there are too many to
mention, students adore the Talent Show, Field Day, Math Night, Literacy Night,
and incentive activities. However, the most popular special event is the PTA
Spring Fling.
Parents of Crystal Hill students follow their students’
example and take a hands-on approach to creating a great school. Our
award-winning Parent Teacher Association sponsors many events throughout the
year! Among the most popular are the much-appreciated monthly teacher
luncheons, the Watch D.O.G.S. program for dads, school fundraisers, and the very
popular Spring Fling!
When students graduate from Crystal Hill Elementary Magnet
School, they will leave confidently knowing they can take a leadership role,
applying the many skills learned in Communications and Technology.
Visitors
are welcome to visit our school and see the many wonderful treasures we have to
offer. Crystal Hill Magnet is a magical and sparkling place to learn and
admire.
