Fighting child hunger

You know that gnawing feeling when you’re hungry or miss a meal imagine that every day as a five year old in kindergarten or a teenager in high school. This is reality for one in four children in Arkansas.

There are signs of child hunger.

“They’ll take food from other students’ trays, ask for their lunches, they might hide or store away food, ” says Stacy Donaghy , Crystal Hill Elementary Principal.

PCSSD cafeteria lunch prices rise, menu items change

Lunch prices are rising 15 cents per meal and the district is also getting rid of all sugary juices. Per new USDA standards, students will only be able to choose from milk or water, popular fruit juices will be available a la carte.

Our school district participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs sponsored by the United States Department of Agriculture and is held to a high standard of accountability, good nutrition and safety.
