Local business helps Harris Elementary students surprise mom this Mother’s Day

They hang on your refrigerator; they fill up your scrap books and set around in your home. We’re talking about the gifts that mean so much to mothers and grandmothers. Earlier this year Coldwell Bankers began collecting jewelry from the Maumelle community to help students from one North Little Rock elementary school find presents for their moms.

College Station Elementary has a friend in 3M

COLLEGE STATION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL has a true friend in neighboring 3M Little Rock, one the world’s leading suppliers of roofing granules to asphalt shingle manufacturers. The company recently presented the school with $10,000 for use by teachers in the classroom. Thank you, 3M! Pictured here is the check presentation at the school today.

Department of Education announces new app for school information

The Arkansas Department of Education today announces a new mobile app for smart phones and tablets that provides easy access to information on Arkansas school districts, schools, and educational cooperatives. It can also be used on desktop and laptop computers.

Jacksonville High band members honor Dr. King

For the second time in their history, the Jacksonville High School Jukebox band was invited to perform at the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission’s 44th Annual Commemorative Vigil due to their outstanding performances for the 2011-2012 school year and for their dedication to the community. The Jukebox Band was the only full band to attend this event.

Maumelle High hosts state legislators

On Tuesday, April 3, the Arkansas State Legislature’s Joint Performance Review (JPR) Committee had a meeting in Maumelle. On the agenda for the day were presentations and question and answer sessions with PCSSD Superintendent Dr. Jerry Guess and Maumelle High Principal Dr. Tamekia Brown. Dr. Guess spoke about the direction the District is moving and the issues we currently face. Dr. Brown gave a brief overview of the exciting things going on at the state’s flagship new high school.
